An escape from the mold! .....or so we thought

This week we gleefully left Cloudbridge, heading for a few sunny days at the beach. On our walk down to the bus, it began to rain (at 10:30! inconceivable!), but we paid it no mind, sure that it couldn't also be raining on the coast. After boarding our trusty steed Yendry Magally (perhaps a story about him later), we made it to San Isidro were it continued raining off and on through the afternoon. This was also more or less expected. Sadly, even after we got onto the bus to the coast, the rain didn't let up! In fact, it got harder, until it was practically torrential as we pulled into Uvita. The kindly woman seated next to me informed me that we had arrived during a tropical storm. Kicking ourselves, we walked the 15 mins to the hostel (there was no need to run, we were soaked within 30 seconds of stepping out of the bus). As we arrived, dripping like drowned rats, we learned that Matthew, master scheduler, had reserved our room for the following week. Luckily, they had a spot for us, though it was rather nicer than we had planned and we had to move after the first night.

Despite all of these adventures, the weather cleared up that night (turns out it may not have been a tropical storm, simply the rainy season), and we had very nice weather for the next few days. We lay on the beach, and swam in the ocean, and snorkeled off the tip of the whales tail! See the cool island/isthmus/formation sticking off of the mainland near our SPOT? At low tide you can walk out to the end, but at high tide it's an island. Luckily some friendly people informed us that it was becoming an island before we got stuck... the water was only up to our waists or so on the way back. Sadly, despite the fact that real whales were in the area, we didn't pay for the boat tour and didn't get to see them. The turtles that we were hoping might be laying eggs on the beach never materialized either... but we do think we saw two scarlet macaws! It turned out to be a nice, relaxing trip, and though our clothes never really dried it didn't end up mattering, because Uvita decided to send us off with more torrential rain as we walked to the bus home.
